Afghans free land

March 25

Can you imagine, that nobody has won a war against Afghanistan people ?

Since country of Afghanistan was established in 1747, it has no any valuable minerals, any valuable fossils, any oil deposits, there is[was] not any important trade routes across the country [only narcotic routes emerged in recent years].

There is nothing attractive, except crossroads location between asian east and west, north and south.

The most powerful nations invaded and fought against Afghanistan people, nobody is able to win them.

1) XIX century wars with Britain (one of the most powerful nation in XIX), Britain wanted to protect the richest India colony from Russia invasion or thoughts of invasion, so they found Afghanistan as the key,
- First Anglo-Afghan War (1839-1842),
- Second Anglo-Afghan War (1878-1881),
- Third Anglo-Afghan War (1919).
Officially Britain forces withdrew in all wars, but they were occupied some territory. Then after 1919 when there were no more threat from just established USSR, they went away.

2) XX century was another invasion from Soviet Union,
- Soviet war in Afghanistan (1979-1989) – Soviet involvement.
That officially was stated as war to protect communist regime in Afghanistan. 10 years took a lot of people lives and leave great impact on Soviet economy and Afghanistan further development. Civil wars never ended there.

3) XXI century started from another war against Afghans people,
- War in Afghanistan (2001–present) – US/NATO involvement.
that was launched in response for the september attacks, so called war on terrorism (US and UK).

As you may see everything repeats, the result is always the same. We are lucky, we do not know how it could be 30 years without small change for peace.

Another Brick in The Wall II, Part I

January 16

Let’s talk about university education, I can speak about my country and specific university (let’s imagine I’m talking about ordinary students, not gurus, who know everything).

The university lectures is very important part of an education process. But there is no any lectures, that are about lectures or what student should do on the lectures.

Since, student is graduated from the school, he/she tries to copy the actions from school. So basically ±80% of students are trying to make their notes, just one in one from the lecture. (or at least >50%, as some teachers are really fast and crazy).

So, what “one in one” gives, as student does not have enough time to think about the material, later he/she must read material once again, good when he/she think and analyze information, bad when he/she just “learn”. It builds builds straight view to things, some sort of algorithms are developed to solve the problems.

‘One in One’ lecture recording (writing) gives to ordinary student,

1) waste of time, certainly there will be necessary time to “digg” the same materil once again.

2)  there could be some other points, but the most important it is starting to kill the ability to think and see problems from different point of view.

It would be great, there will be the lecture that describes some secrets.

a) starting from the point that ‘one in one’ lecture from teachers words could no be really good (alien material, no personal thoughts and imagination about it).

b) beginning point could be teachers lectures, but written by student, when he/she used brain no just pen and ears. Unfortunately there could be the problem with speedy and crazy fast lectures, when material is given so fast, it’s very difficult to hear all material (not think about it).

c) more better way could be brief notes (personal notes) from the professor lecture. This one is working, when there are good sources (external materials) available, if you do not catch something, take book and do it.

One group do not want to learn, second group do not want to teach. Is there anybody out there ? Thanks God, yes.

Hey! Teachers! Leave them kids alone.

TransistorOne of the greatest talent is to make, teach, describe complicated things in the easy way. As person has magic to attract the attention of the people group, that make group to remember the subject and build imagination for complicated thing for the entire life.

I’m not big fan of the electronic, I had different classes related to the electronics at the university, electronic “looked” very boring for me. I can imagine and argue, that ~90% of the people, who attended electronic classes with me remember only the really basic of it. E.g. transistor is known word, but the main functions of it not (I’m not an “upstart”). Today I found outstanding description on the one book,

Transistor definition,

The transistor will likely go down as one of the greatest in modern history…

Transistor is tiny electronic device to control the flow of electricity. It has two key abilities: the first to amplify an electric signal, and the other is to switch on or off (1 or 0), letting current trough or blocking it as necessary.

Diode definition,

unlike a resistor, a diode is one-way street. Electricity (electrons) can go trough, but it can’t come back trough.

iWoz, Steve Wozniak with Gina Smith.

Well, probably if I had someone who describes the electronic in the similar way, I could be more interested in this subject. As well, such easy description stay on mind all life long, because it is an association, even then you do not touch these things at all.

Teachers are not supposed to be clowns, I agree. However, at the Latvian main technical university a lot of the teachers lack the ability to understand the fact, that some of their students have different level of the previous knowledge and a lot of classes are held in the “automatic” way, when teacher without any feelings and emotions are presenting the subject. Unfortunately usually students build just like “wall” against, so in result disrespect and incomprehension from the both sides. And students fell pretty good, when the teacher has trying to put himself/herself and best efforts to the process. Upon respect is built, two-side communication is possible, from teacher – his/her best to give the knowledge, from student – wiliness to get more knowledge.

Yes, I agree, that without any wiliness to knowledge, nothing is possible at the communication between teacher and student, however very motivated teacher is able to set fire for big groups of the students. That’s why talent is such important, that is described at the first sentence.

Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not one bit simple, Albert Einstein.
